Life After Retirement for the Baby Boomers
Retirement for the baby boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, is near. Not travelling more is among the regrets in life, for those in this age bracket. To most of them, travelling was a challenge due to work responsibilities and to others, buying cars and houses was more important. Since they did not know how much they would need after retirement, some did not also save properly and many some did not also save properly. Some also wish they worked more, and not for the money but for satisfaction. Since baby boomers are passionate about their jobs and they enjoy serving people, most are likely to get back to the workforce as consultants. Other than finding a sense of purpose, work keep them physically fit, and mentally sharp as they have a good reflection on life.
Hopefully, this can offer some consolation, a life without regrets is a life not lived. After retirement, baby boomers will enter another phase, they will begin another life and since they have been cautious about their health, baby boomers are expected to live longer than previous generations. It is a great opportunity to do all the things they regret not doing, since they do not have to worry about buying houses and cars, and they do not work anymore, they can travel more.
Baby boomers do not have to worry over depleting their retirement money or their savings. Worry only depletes the chances of having a happy life. It is time to spend money on fun, since they have spent most of their lives taking care of bills, educating their children and investing. As a baby boomer, do not be afraid to use your retirement money on activities that make you happy, this is the time to treat yourself. Retirement can be lonely, especially if you are estranged from your family. Therefore, since their company provides enjoyment in retirement, it is a time to re-evaluate your relationship. Relocating could also do you some good since you can engage new activities, make new friends and visit new places.
Health guarantees happiness in retirement. As compared to those who are in poor or fair health, retirees who are in good, very good and excellent health find more satisfaction in their retirement. A good health status is more likely to bring more satisfaction than leisure spending or good relationships. Eat healthy, sleep well, play often and exercise; your retirement will be just fine. In retirement, baby boomers should also discover their passions, those they had when they were younger but stopped doing them due to work and other responsibilities. This the time to take music, painting, instrument playing or even dancing classes. A parting shot for the baby boomers and some words of wisdom, ‘do not regret growing older, it is a privilege denied to many.’
